After a week of ups, downs, and maybe a little sideways movement, Friday is here.
It’s the day where everything feels a bit lighter, the weekend is within touching distance, and we can let out a collective sigh of relief. So, let’s talk about keeping things simple, slowing down, and finding those little moments of joy to finish the week strong.
If you’re anything like me, Fridays can be a bit of a mixed bag.
Sometimes it’s the “let’s tie up every loose end” chaos, and other times it’s the “why is this the busiest day of my week?” regret. But over the years, I’ve learned to embrace the simplicity of Fridays. They’re not about big plans or grand gestures—they’re about little wins, like a good cup of coffee, a walk at lunchtime, or ticking one last thing off the list before switching off.
Do people TGIF?
Research from the University of Sussex shows that people are 33% more likely to feel happier on Fridays than on Mondays, regardless of their workload. Why? Anticipation. Just the thought of the weekend gives us a boost. But why wait for the weekend to feel good? We can find those feel-good moments right here, right now.
How can we make the most of our Fridays?
Here are a few simple ideas to bring a little lightness to your Friday and set the tone for a great weekend:
- Celebrate a Small Win: Whether it’s clearing your inbox, finishing a project, or just surviving the week, take a moment to give yourself credit. You’ve earned it.
- Have a Friday Treat: A fancy coffee, a sneaky chocolate bar, or a takeaway lunch – whatever feels like a little celebration of the week that was.
- Take a Pause: Step outside, breathe in some fresh air, and let the week settle. Even five minutes of calm can be a reset button for the mind.
- Send a Positive Message: Drop a quick note of thanks to a colleague or share something funny with your team. Positivity is contagious, and Fridays are the perfect day to spread it.
- Plan Something You’ll Look Forward To: Whether it’s a movie night, a lazy morning, or a catch-up with friends, having something to anticipate makes the weekend feel even sweeter.
- Leave yourself a note for Monday: This has been really helpful hack to help me switch-off – a little reminder of where you’re at with things and to encourage you for the week ahead.
