#MondayMotivation – Leadership Lessons from Santa’s Workshop

As the holiday season ramps up, leaders everywhere face their own version of the North Pole: tight deadlines, high expectations, and teams juggling more tasks than they have hands (or elves). What can we learn from Santa, the jolliest CEO of all, about leading under pressure?

It’s December 23rd, and Santa’s workshop is in full swing…

Toys are being packed, reindeer are doing last-minute stretches, and the elves are downing hot cocoa by the gallon. Amid the chaos, Santa stays calm, cracking jokes, and rallying his team with a booming “Ho, ho, ho!” He knows his job isn’t just about delivering gifts; it’s about ensuring everyone feels valued, supported, and motivated to cross the finish line.

A 2022 survey by the Institute of Leadership & Management found that teams who felt appreciated and supported by their leaders during peak periods were 50% more likely to meet their goals without burnout. Leadership isn’t about being perfect under pressure, it’s about creating an environment where your team can thrive.

How can we implement Santa’s leadership style this Christmas?

  • Make Time for Joy: Santa knows the power of a good laugh. Add some light-hearted moments to the workday; a festive playlist, an ugly sweater contest, or simply celebrating small wins.
  • Lead with Gratitude: A heartfelt “thank you” can go a long way. Recognise your team’s hard work, whether it’s with a handwritten note, a shoutout in a meeting, or a mince pie delivery.
  • Delegate Like a Pro: Santa doesn’t load every sleigh or train every reindeer himself. Trust your team to take ownership of their tasks and watch them rise to the occasion.
  • Plan for the Recovery: The holidays are tough, make sure you and your team have time to recharge after the sprint. Remember, even Santa takes January off.

Let’s talk…
